Matters of the Heart
OMG

My husband has a blood clot in his leg! He may need emergency surgery. Some of you may know that he was in ICU for three months 10 years ago. He almost did not survive. It was two days after Thanksgiving that he went to ER and landed in ICU. This is horrible time of year for us. Please keep us in your thoughts. Thank you.

3 surgeries in 2006 for L5-S1 issues. 360 PLIF with rods, screws, cages and BMP finally stabilized my back. Now have permanent S1 nerve damage. In the process of seeking a SCS trial. Must stay reclined and cannot sit or walk for longer than 20-30 minutes at a time without reclining off of my S1 nerve. Significantly limited life as a result. On long acting meds plus breakthrough meds, and muscle relaxers when spasms get out of control.

12.4.08 to 12.09.08- ANS Eon Mini Spinal Cord Stimulator Trial SUCCESSFUL. Doc is working to get me in ASAP with the neurosurgeon who will do the final placement.

1.5.08 - Permanent placement of the ANS Eon Mini spinal cord stimulator (SCS). Current issues trying to be resolved, involving some anomaly in my spinal canal causing problems.

You have my prayers

My thoughts and prayers are with you. I hope he's doing okay! Big Hug

In need of 3 level ACDF of C4-5, C5-6, C6-7, which are all degenerating. Spondylosis, spurring, bulging discs at C4-5 and C5-6, torn ligaments and "cervical instability" in my neck all causing pain throughout my neck and uppper back, sometimes my whole back. Also have tons of tension headaches which turn into migraines. Have done physical therapy, chiropractor, and multiple types of injections with limited or no relief. All of this is the result of a car accident in December 2004.

I'll say a prayer for the two of you

painintheback,
It's so hard when both of the spouses have problems. recently my wife had shoulder issues that she procrastinated on. And that made things tough for us both of us. with my problems and hers' there is no one to take up the slack. She got her surgery and all is well now. and we made it through everything without having to depend or impose on anyone else. I'm happy for that!
My mother Had clot issues and several mini strokes, but they put her on new drugs and she has not had a issue for 6 yrs. So I really hope the same will happen for your hubby.
You're in my prayers, Jim

First back injury 1970 work related conservative treatment.Several low back accidents over the years,Treatments, Chiropractors,
In 1988 serious low back injury, off work 6 mo. Treatment Chiropractors, anti inflammatory meds.
1989 serious back injury, also work related, Saw 6 different doctors over next 6 mo. Orthopedic doc. ordered mri. Findings, L4,L5,S1, DDD, Bulging discs.Got "KSLO 2" body back brace. Ortho suggested 360 3 level fusion w/Harrington rods.
I refused surgery and went for the brace 24-7 and conservative treatments with stronger anti inflammatories.
1998 another setback, Ortho still wanted fusion. I asked for other conservative treatments. Sent to Pm doc for epidurals. And tufted it out with no pain meds. Had as many epidurals as aloud till Oct. 2002 and could no longer work.
2003 anterior posterior 360 3 level fusion w/ bone harvest from my hip. After recovery I felt like I had the back of a 20 year old for 7 mos. Then I went straight downhill... FAST!
2004 L,3 Fused. Never recovered
2005 Had hardware removed, thinking that was the problem. I recouped from surgery but no improvement.
2006 Had scs installed. They couldn't get the stimulation where I needed it. They said they had never seen a Human wired like me. After every kind of injection there is. I'm on 50 mg methadone, Hydrocodone 20/30 apap for break through, Celebrex 200 2 a day, Diaspam 5 mgs. 2 a day, wellbutrin xl 150 mgs. cymbalta 20 mgs. and lidoderm lidocane 5% patches. I was a "type-A workoholic" Now I don't quite know what I am!
