Hey, you are not alone! I'm up too. Having lots of burning and nerve pain. Have you tried Ambien CR or Lunesta to help you sleep? I'm sorry you are having so much trouble.
I had a really bad week like that a few months. Finally had to take Ambien. Take care. Hope
Yeah I've had real issues sleeping too. Aside from the hard stuff, Melatonin is pretty good. It doesn't work for everybody but it could be worth a shot.
At night is when my brain starts to run and I really have a tough time. I think I'm gonna try some meditation classes or something to try to get control of it myself.
Hope you can get some rest soon,
~Lauren
Hi ya'll. I herniated discs L4/L5 and L5/S1 in May '07, positioning a patient (I'm a nurse).

Thanks for reading!!
I have tried both Lunesta and Ambien. They help but i don't like the way I feel the next day. I have Flexeril for muscle spasms and it help great. I just need to refill my script. But even the Flexeril only helps me sleep for a couplr hours

When I talked to my doc about the insomnia that I suffer from he asked me "what do you do at night?" I told him that I don't do anything, but my brain just won't shut off! I don't know what I think about, it just goes and goes. I can go days on just a few hours of sleep and still not fall asleep from the exhaustion. He started me on Pristiq, which is like Effexor, if I remember correctly. He said he thought it would quiet my mind so that I could go to sleep easier and that he thought I was suffering from anxiety. It does help with my brain running in circles all night, but I still have to take sleep meds. I don't notice an after effect from the Ambien CR and Rozerem, but I don't HAVE to get up at a certain time and be somewhere each day and if I have a doc appt or something, I always schedule it for the afternoon. If I happen to have something to do in the morning I might as well forget about sleeping because I'm up all night thinking about not sleeping before the appt!
I hope you are able to get some sleep tonight!
Terrie

If misery loves company........I thought it was just me. I haven't slept through the nite in over a month.
I too am grateful for this site. Keeps me from having to watch info mercials at weird hours.
Paul,
Sorry to hear that you are not sleeping. You are not alone, my sleep has been a problem since my first surgery last November. When I say something to my NS and OS they look at me as if I am not there. I did mention it to my Primary Doctor, he wants me to check with the NS to see what he wants to do next week, if he doesn't do anything, my primary will take care of it the first week of September. It is very frustrating when we can't sleep. Hoep that things get better for you.

2 level ACDF c5-c6, c6-c7, November 2007...cervical stenosis with myelopathy....Removal of hardware and another 2 level ACDF c3-c4, c4-c5 and posterior cervical laminectomy at c5,c6,c7 in March 2008 to help stop the progression of myelopathy..feeling better every day!!
I can't remember the last time I laid down in bed and stayed there, asleep, all night. I usually lay there awake for an hour or two, finally fall asleep and then wake up every hour on the hour after that. Or else I go right to sleep because I'm exhausted, only to wake up an hour later and wander the house. I frequently end up in my La-Z-Boy for an hour or two.
This has been most of my adult life, not just since I hurt my back. Meds don't do anything but make me jittery.
sigh

Discectomy for L5-S1 hernaition on June 9th. July 18 was 1st anniversary of injury, finally getting some relief.
i would recommend froce sleep it's a great product been using it for 5 months now gives me great night sleep without the 'spaced out' feeling the next morning
