Acute Pain refers to when pain is a direct result of tissue damage and lasts for a short period of time, usually less than a few months (after 3-6 months, it is usually chronic pain). Acute pain is often caused by a trauma (i.e. touching a hot stove, slamming a finer in a door, etc.) and does not persist after the injury has healed.
