Have you been diagnosed with nonspecific mechanical low back pain? If so, you may be wondering what this means. Nonspecific means that there's no known anatomical cause, meaning something serious, such as a tumor, infection, or fracture has been ruled out.
The mechanical peace means that there is a movement dysfunction to your pain. Whether this is reduced spine range of motion, reduced flexibility, reduced strength, or reduced tolerance to certain positions such as walking, standing, or even being in one position for too long. On your imaging, there still may be some signs of arthritis or degenerative changes, but some of these are normal with age, and if they're not serious, they still may not be a direct cause of your pain. Hence, using the term nonspecific mechanical back pain to describe the function and current state of your back function.
